Taking Mental Health Seriously: PRG Launches Mental Health First Aid Training

Construction is a tough industry. Long days, time away from home and tight programmes all take their toll, and not always in ways you can see. The industry has one of the highest suicide rates of any sector in the UK, and too many people still feel they can’t talk about how they’re doing.

At PRG, we want to change that, starting with our own team.

Over the past few days, we’ve reached out to everyone across our workforce to ask if they’d be interested in becoming a Mental Health First Aider. The response has been brilliant, with people keen to get stuck in and plenty of positivity about what it could mean for the team.

Mental Health First Aiders are trained to spot the early signs that someone might be struggling, start a conversation and point them towards the right support. Just as we have physical first aiders on every job, we think mental health deserves the same attention.

“Looking after our people has always come first at PRG, and that has to include how they’re doing mentally, not just physically. I’ve been really proud of how many people have put their hands up for this. It shows we’ve got a team that genuinely looks out for each other.”

This is just the start, and we’ll share updates as the training gets under way. A big thank you to everyone who has volunteered
